Astronomy – Galaxies

Galaxy Picture Album

I love long distance astronomy – the massive numbers that not only boggle the mind, but also take us back in time to when the universe was a few billion years younger.  The pink link at the top will take you to dozens of pictures of galaxies, many of them extraordinary, taken by God’s gift to Astronomers – The Hubble Space Telescope. (Thank God they got that repair mission in a month ago.  If that decision was Obama’s, the trip doesn’t happen).

Below is a picture of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1300, 70 million light years away, roughly 100,000 light years across.  Hubble came up with this composite picture in 2005.
