Todd’s Tennis Takes – Madrid

Watched all of Gulbis/Youzhny and Nadal/Dolgopolov Wed 5/12…Gulbis is a threat for semis at French…likely will be seeded…playing awesome, won first 19 points of match on his serve (up 40-0 in his 5th service gm)…his touch is incredible considering how powerful he can hit it, and his power is effortless and smooth…eventually he’s a slam winner one day.

Oleksander Dolgopolov is a new favorite of mine – reminds me of Marcelo Rios (rt handed version), and very few can do that.  21 yrs old, hits w/ tons of spin, jumps into his shots including his serve…great feel, unique shotmaking style, variety of spins…loves the squash shot playing defense and is good at it…tries to control rallies even though he’s small, and has a long ponytail like Rios…and he gave Nadal a test, lost 6-4, 6-3.  French will be his first slam appearance.

Look for a full French Preview, in two parts, coming soon from Todd’s Tennis Takes.
