TTT – Aussie Update, Day 2

The 18 yr old Aussie hotshot Bernard Tomic crushed talented but inconsistent Jeremy Chardy today, 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(5). Tomic is a name to watch for, a tall (6’4″), lean kid who can hit with the big boys despite his ranking of just #199. He has now beaten 4 legit ATP top 100 guys this year already – Kunitsyn, Michael Berrer, Kubot (who beat Querry yesterday), and now Chardy, currently ranked #44, as high as #31 in late 2009.

Also today, like Roddick & Fed yesterday, Nadal cruised, only easier, as he was up 6-0, 5-0 over challenger level journeyman Marcos Daniel before the Brazilian retired from the match. In an all Argentine battle, Eduardo Schwank buried Leonardo Mayer 6-2, 6-0, 6-4 – a rather surprising thumping as Mayer is a pretty good player, and they are ranked rather closely, Schwank #86 and Mayer #107. Both would rather be playing on clay, of course.

BTW, watched a little Mirza/Henin last night, just to catch the very pretty Indian in action…took her to 3 sets, but alas, her tournament is over.
