NBA Awards

The Wilt Chamberlain Award:  Youth Brigade’s  Javale McGee — 11 pts, 12 reb, 1 asst, 1 FTM, 0 stl, 12 blk, 0 treys, and 5-14 FG%…Yes, I know the FG% was ugly, esp for a big man, and the dimes, FTM, and stls were woefully inadequate, but 12 blocks is just awesome. Block shots are my favorite stat, with stls a close second…there’s something about the whole athletic movement of it – jumping your highest, maybe even flying thru the air (D Wade style), and spiking a shot back from where it came….it’s a fun play to watch, and getting a dozen in a game is super rare…like a 9 asst/5 blk performance. Javale’s teammate John Wall wasn’t bad either, and maybe is the true Wilt winner – 17 pts, 11 reb, 7 asst, 2 FTM, 4 stl, 1 blk, 1 trey, and 7-14 from the floor…
The Hasheem Thabeet Award:  White Vegas’  Brandon Jennings — 4 pts, 1 reb, 2 asst, 2 FTM, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 treys, and 1-8 FG% in 28 minutes…at this point in his career, Jennings is looking to be a super-quick but erratic PG (career 37.4% shooter), who is known for two things from his rookie year – scoring 55 points in his 7th NBA game, and then proceeding to go on one of the ugliest shooting rampages the league has ever seen. In his next 13 games he shot over 50% once, including a streak of 7 straight games shooting under 34%…after that he had a streak of 13 games out of 14 under 40%, including sub 30% nights of 1-9, 5-21, 5-18, and 4-17. He shot 32.4% for Jan and 30.7% for Feb, hoisting 13.5 shots a game. He wasn’t shy about trying to shoot his way out of the months long slump. I suffered through it as his owner…painful and yet interesting because I knew I was seeing historically bad shooting.

Top 10 NBA Ring Chasers
I found an article today listing the top 10 ring chasers of all-time in the NBA. Here’s the link. Shaq was #1 – they nailed it – with Gary Payton 2nd (after Laker chase failed, he hit paydirt in Mia 2006). But back to Shaq, how pathetic is it that someone of his stature with 3 well-deserved/earned rings still has to keep chasing rings in Miami, Phx, Clev, and now Bos…gross. His ring chasing reveals Shaq’s dominant trait – greed. He always wants more…attention, money, recognition, love from his fans/audience, more rings…he’s a glutton. He’s disgusting.
